The Mau Africa Safari is a wonderful 9-day adventure and a memorable safari to admire the beauties of Northern Tanzania, you will visit Tarangire Park, Lake Manyara Park, Serengeti Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Eyasi, all of which are popular safari destinations. 

 

Here you’ll get an up-close look at animals of the savannah, such as lions, cheetahs and kudus, and take pictures of Tanzania’s beautiful landscapes.

FULL ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVE

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be met by a Mau Safaris transfer driver. You will be transferred to your lodge where the remainder of the day is spent at leisure.

Rest in your room, relax in the manicured gardens, enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool or explore Arusha and the surrounding areas on one of our day tours. The choice is yours.

Dinner and Overnight: Planet Lodge/ Forest Hall Carnival Hotel

DAY 2&3: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

You will depart Arusha in the morning and head to Tarangire National Park, arriving before midday. 

Once in the park, you will be able to enjoy both a morning and afternoon game drive with a delicious lunch in the afternoon. In the early evening, after your game drive, you will return to your luxury Tented Lodge in karatu for dinner & overnight at Burunge Lodge / Sangaiwe Hotel.

DAY 4: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

After Breakfast you will drive to Lake Manyara for a full day game drive. Stretching along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, it is home to giant fig trees, acacia woodlands, mahogany trees and grassy flood plains. 

The contrasts of this area are simply breathtaking with its open plains, huge escarpment, soda lake, dense woodlands and distant volcanic peaks. It comes together in an area best described by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”.

Animals such as buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, mongoose, dik dik and zebra herds congregate on the grassy plains while the acacia woodland is home to the legendary tree-climbing lions and tusked elephants.

Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s bird life with more than 400 species being recorded. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration as well as other large waterbirds such as pelicans and storks. Late in the afternoon, you will return to luxury Tented Lodge for Dinner and overnight at Marera Valley / Manyara Secrets.

DAY 5&6: CENTRAL SERENGETI

You can either have a relaxed breakfast and depart for full day game drives around 9:00 AM with packed lunch and return back to lodge late afternoon around 6:00 PM. Or you can depart at 6:00 AM on an early morning game drive. Later return to accommodation for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart on an afternoon game drive with packed lunch.

 You will explore the central portion of the Serengeti National Park today. The legendary Serengeti National Park is the most renowned safari destination for its incredible population of lions and leopards.

The central portion of the Serengeti – known as Seronera area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. It features the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. 

During the off season of the migration, one must really look out for the many lion pride that thrive in this region. The interactions and survival of these lion pride provide an excellent game viewing experience all year round.

Along with a picnic lunch during the full day game drive, the day will come to a close by around 5PM. The long day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in Tanzania Bush Camp / Serengeti Pure Tented Camp.

DAY 7: NDUTU AREA SERENGETI

After breakfast we head towards  Ndutu area  and Start you’re a full day game drive.

Lake Ndutu area, situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. Lake Ndutu is alkaline, like most of the other Rift lakes, however, the water is still drinkable and used by a wide array of local wildlife. 

The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game.

DAY 8: NGORONGORO

Early morning at 05.45, take your breakfast box and proceed for sunrise game drive until 09.00 am drive back to the camp to take your luggage and picnic lunch box drive into the Ngorongoro Crater for game drive.

The crater is 20km in diameter, 600m high and is the largest intact crater in the world. An estimated 30,000 large mammals live in the crater, which features a Salt Lake at its center. This is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in the world! The Maasai people live together in harmony with the animals that also call this place home.

From the edge you will look out over the impressive crater and all of its wonderful inhabitants. In late afternoon we will drive to Eyasi for dinner and Overnight at Marera New Lodge / Farm of Dream

DAY 9: LAKE EYASI – ARUSHA

After an early morning breakfast, you depart for your cultural tour with the hadzabe community. This is your day with typical cultural tribe and engage in real hunting together. It is a tribe of hunters and collectors, which formerly inhabited the Serengeti, but was forced away by stronger and more aggressive tribes. The Hadzabe live in traditional ways, hunting game such as dik-diks and collecting honey.

Their huts are simple, built in a few hours and as easily abandoned. Like another people of hunters and collectors, the San tribe of the Kalahari in southern Africa, the Hadza speak a click language. After hunting and engagement with the tribe, you depart for arusha with a stop for your lunch on the way. Later drop to your hotel or proceed to kilimanjaro airport for flight home.
