Remote West · Mahale Mountains National Park

Mahale: Chimpanzees on Lake Tanganyika

A remote western destination where forested mountains meet Lake Tanganyika, offering an intimate wilderness experience far from the usual safari routes.

Mahale is home to one of the largest known populations of wild chimpanzees. Trekking through the forest to spend an hour with a habituated community is one of Africa's great wildlife encounters.

Between treks, swim in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, the longest freshwater lake in the world, and watch dhows drift past white-sand beaches.
