Ngorongoro: A world within a crater

A dramatic volcanic landscape where crater walls, grasslands and wildlife create one of Tanzania's most remarkable safari settings.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera in the world: around 260 square kilometres of grassland, swamp and forest enclosed by walls 600 metres high.

Its floor is one of the best places in Africa to see the endangered black rhino, alongside lion, buffalo, hippo and flamingo-pink soda lakes. Maasai herders still graze their cattle on the highlands around the rim.
