Tarangire: Elephants beneath the baobabs

Famous for its great elephant herds, ancient baobabs and distinctive landscapes, Tarangire offers a quieter side of the northern safari circuit.

In the dry season the Tarangire River becomes the only permanent water for miles around, drawing hundreds of elephants along with zebra, wildebeest, eland and buffalo.

Giant baobab trees, some over a thousand years old, give the park a look all its own. It is a wonderful first stop that eases you into safari life just two hours from Arusha.
