Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Your Mau Africa guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport for the transfer to your Arusha hotel. Take the evening to rest beneath Mount Meru and receive a short briefing on the journey ahead.
Day 2: Arusha → Tarangire National Park
Drive about two hours to Tarangire for an afternoon game drive among baobabs and the park's famous elephant herds, then continue to your camp or lodge.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park
A full day following the Tarangire River, where elephant, zebra, wildebeest and buffalo gather to drink. Picnic lunch beneath a baobab.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater
Descend 600 metres onto the crater floor for a full day among rhino, lion, buffalo and hippo. Picnic lunch beside the hippo pool before climbing out in the afternoon.
Day 5: Into the Serengeti
Climb through the Ngorongoro highlands and descend onto the endless plains. Game drive en route to central Serengeti, arriving in time for sundowners.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
A full day of game drives across the Seronera valley: kopjes, river lines and open plains with some of Africa's best big-cat viewing. Sunrise balloon flight.
Day 7: Northern Serengeti
Head north towards the Mara River, the setting for the dramatic river crossings of the migration (generally July to October).
Day 8: Mara River
A full day for river-crossing country.
Day 9: Mara River
Another day with the herds in the north.
Day 10: Departure
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home, or continue on to Zanzibar. Fly from Kogatende airstrip to Arusha.
